The Gothia Cup in Gothenburg, Sweden is the largest youth football tournament in the world. Every July it brings together around 1,700 teams from more than 80 countries for a week of football — a bucket-list trip for young players and a big undertaking for the families who travel with them.
Gothia is enormous, which is both the appeal and the challenge. Expect big crowds, shared school-hall accommodation, and a genuinely international atmosphere, with an opening ceremony at the Ullevi stadium. Because it is so large, experiences vary a lot by age group, accommodation and travel package — exactly the kind of thing first-hand reviews help with.
